About Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

Named after the late Miami newspaper editor who championed this area for a state park, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is part of a large barrier island ecosystem. Following Hurricane Andrew in 1992, an extensive restoration program was undertaken. The goal of the program is to restore the natural plant communities and systems historically associated with the island.

“I believe Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is a true jewel and a real bargain. Where else can a family spend an entire day at one of Dr. Beach’s Top Ten Beaches in the US, climb to the top of the Cape Florida Lighthouse, the oldest man made structure in South Florida and listed on the National Register of Historic Sites, hike nature trails that wind through native habitats of the real Florida, ride on a bike path under a natural canopy, kayak or snorkel in clear turquoise waters, eat a picnic in one of the many shelters or enjoy authentic Cuban cuisine at your choice of Lighthouse Café or Boater’s Grill, two restaurants with amazing views all for $8, less than the price to park in most places.”           Robert Yero, Park Manager
